Buy You A Drank Afterthoughts
I haven’t had as much fun at a Minneapolis party in a while, and a lot of that had to do with awesome music all night long. Stefan’s birthday party was, in my opinion, a raging success. With the place packed pretty much all night long. Great music, purple drank, free cupcakes, Buy You a Drank remixes all night long; how could you go wrong?
As far as music, everything was super-win. Not a single shitty set that night. PMT & Squiggles started it off proper with cheese and Chocolate Rain, Symmetry brought the fluffy Drum and Bass, and Hack vs. Hunter with Drum and Breaks was fucking awesome, they need to tag again and soon! Tenshi was awesome, as always, and Clear steered away from the minimal, keeping it banging all throughout. Rype’s set had a lot of new sounds, banging as hell as always. Carrie was getting tired after my set so I only got to hear Pandemic’s creepy psytrance for 20 minutes or so, but what I heard was excellent (record a mix man!).
My first time on a fucking huge sound system (previously having just played on monitors at an outdoor event) was quite an experience. Numero uno, you can’t hear shit, so crank up the headphones and prepare to lose a few hertz of hearing range. Numero dos, you can get away with some sloppy ass mixes, because the bass is so loud it disguises a lot of near misses. And yes, it’s quite a thrill to see a bunch of people appreciating the same music as you, dancing their fucking faces off.
Stefan was planning on recording all of the sets, but finishing everything up in time for the party led to not bringing the laptop. So although I was planning on posting the live set this weekend, I’ll have to wait to re-record it and release it as a proper mix. This is probably for the best, because there are a few places that were a little rough, and I think the set’s awesomeness will shine through after some polish.
Unfortunately, I got to play on Dan Hack’s DJM-800, and it has only increased my lust for such a fine mixer. My 600 is completely serviceable and a little wonder in and of itself, but dear lord do I want those extra effects.
New pictures are up, including previous parties I was at, including Future:Perfect, the Last Everâ„¢ 9th Circle, the MN Electro Sock Hop, and of course, Stefan’s b-day bonanza Buy You A Drank. Generally, the number of pictures I take at a party is directly proportional to awesomeness of the party.
Oh yeah, and here’s a video of Stefan’s brother Scott doing some wicked Drum and Bass-inspired beat boxing.
